What can be hidden inside an ordinary photo?

EXIF is commonly associated with camera settings, but image metadata can span several families. Depending on the file, you may find GPS coordinates, capture timestamps, camera or phone model, software, author or account fields, comments, descriptions, thumbnails, XMP, IPTC and other data.

The privacy question is not “does this photo have EXIF?” It is “what information is actually attached to this file, and do I want to share it?”

Privacy Clean is designed for that question.

MetaTaken's Privacy Clean targets supported personal and private metadata such as:

  • GPS and location information
  • author, account and creator details
  • device and camera-identifying information
  • dates and timestamps, including capture date where stored as removable metadata

Your original keeps its original metadata.

MetaTaken never cleans the source image in place. It creates a separate output copy. That matters when you want a privacy-safe delivery copy but still want your archive to retain capture dates, camera information or other useful original metadata.

How to remove GPS and EXIF metadata with MetaTaken

  1. Drop the image or a batch. MetaTaken inspects the files locally.
  2. Review the plain-language findings. Look for location, device, dates, creator and other categories.
  3. Choose Privacy Clean. A separate cleaned copy is created with the selected private metadata targeted for removal.
  4. Check the verified result. MetaTaken re-inspects the output and reports anything retained, unsupported or uncertain.

Why not just use “remove all metadata” blindly?

Sometimes that is exactly what you want. Other times you may want a narrower privacy clean, or you may be working with a structurally unusual image where aggressive rewriting is not justified. MetaTaken keeps those states visible instead of treating every file as identical.
